Darchen,Tarchan or Taqin (simplified Chinese: 塔钦; traditional Chinese: 塔欽; pinyin: tǎqīn) is a small village in Purang County of theTibet Autonomous Region of China. It was previously known as Lhara and still signposted as such. It was previously an important sheep station for nomads and their flocks and had only two permanent buildings; only one of which survived the Cultural Revolution and is now used to house Tibetan pilgrims.[1]

Darchen is situated right in front of the sacred mountain, Mount Kailash. Its altitude is 4,575 metres (15,010 ft) and is the starting point for pilgrimages in the region.[2][3] ^{..... More.....}

Mount Kailash (also Mount Kailas; Tibetan: གངས་རིན་པོ་ཆེ, Kangrinboqê or Gang Rinpoche; Sanskrit: कैलास पर्वत, Kailāsa Parvata; simplified Chinese: 冈仁波齐峰, Gāngrénbōqí fēng) is a peak in the Gangdisê Mountains, which are part of theHimalayas in Tibet. It lies near the source of some of the longest rivers in Asia: the Indus River, the Sutlej River (a major tributary of the Indus River), the Brahmaputra River, and the Karnali River (a tributary of the Ganges River). It is considered a sacred place in fourreligions: Bön, Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism. In Hinduism, it is considered to be the abode of Lord Shiva and a place of eternal bliss.
